Indeed, Sony Ericsson was able surprise everyone not by announcing the Xperia X10 Mini but also its twin brother the Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Both phones run on the Android 1.6 OS and are compact versions of the previously announced Xperia X10 smartphone.
The difference between these two smartphones are very few as the X10 mini pro sports a slide out QWERTY Keyboard while the Xperia X10 mini is a touchscreen phone. Aside from this, the two phones give users access to thousands of applications available at the Android Market.
The two phones also boast of nice customization features such as home screen customization through widgets. Both phones are also pre-loaded with Sony Ericsson’s new application called Timescape. This app allows users to see at a glance text messages, missed calls and Facebook and Twitter updates without needing to open those apps individually. Read the rest of this entry »
Did you ever wondered why the Xperia X1 keeps on getting low signal/reception? Try removing your unit’s battery cover for a few seconds and watch as your Xperia X1 gets an extra bar or two. Now, while this could be solve by finding a plastic battery cover (if you’re lucky to find one) another issue with the Xperia X1 which hampers its signal reception has something to do with its antenna.
The Xperia X1′s antenna is covered by thick rubberized plastic coating which weakens its capability to get full reception. How to solve that? Take a deep breath and whitesites blog’s method of increasing the Xperia X1′s antenna.
Basically all you need to do is to pull out the antenna module, open it up and scrappe off the rubber coating using a cutter blade. Once done, you can now put the antenna module back and enjoy your Xperia X1 with great signal/reception strength.
Check out the Whitesite’s blog for photos of the actual tinkering with the Xperia X1 antenna.
We’ve seen some good photos of the upcoming Sony Ericsson Idou smartphone. Now, SlashGear is running some more live shots the said phone, this time side by side, with the Xperia X1 and Nokia E71. The photos are courtesy of fone.sk. And just by looking at the photos, you’ll noticed that the two phones are almost the same in size.
But aside from the size, the Sony Ericsson Idou is rumored to have a better camera and image editing functions than the Xperia. The Idou would also allow users to tweak images taken by the phone’s camera even while inside the camera application.
Other observation made by SlashGear is the fact that the Idou’s text book seems to have been shrunk to less than a third of the phone’s display.
The Sony Ericsson Idou is slated for a summer release barring any unnecessary circumstances that Sony Ericsson as a company would be experiencing in the near future.
Still hesitant to get the Xperia X1 due to its high price? Sony Ericsson Korea has officially launched the Xperia X1 to the Korean market. Yup, you read it right, despite being available to other countries for a couple of months now, it is only now that our friends from Korea would finally see, touch and use the Xperia X1.
The launch was made possible in partnership with SK Telecom which shall also be the distributor of the Xperia X1. And through this cooperation with SK Telecom, the Xperia X1 Korean version would have 3 additional panels aside from the default panels it already has. These 3 panels are My Smart Panel, DAUM Panel, and My PC Panel. In addition, the SPB panel will be localized to fit the Korean market.
My Smart Panel will provide Korean users easy access to online services including mail, messenger, and internet browsing. DAUM Panel will provide users instant access to services offered by the DAUM portal including web search and mail functionality. My PC panel will connect users to PC content through WiBRO.
Aside from these three new panels, the Xperia X1 Korean version will also come with a 4GB micro SD card preloaded with Spiderman 3. In addition, the first 1,000 buyers of the Xperia X1 can have their name engraved on their unit for free.
If you’re from the U.S. you’ve probably have the Xperia X1a unit with a limited video recording capability. Xperia X1a units can only record video up to 24fps for QVGA and 10 fps for VGA resolution. You have to thank Broadcom, the company which holds the patent rights on mobile for that limitation.
But don’t lose your hope in being able to record video from your Xperia X1a with the highest quality. If you’re brave enough to tweak your unit’s ROM, then a new ROM upgrade is available at your perusal. By upgrading your Xperia X1a ROM you’re going to make it similar to the UK Version of your unit – the X1i. You can get the UK Xperia X1i ROM by visiting pocketnow.com. They got the link to the file.
Of course you probably know by now that upgrading your unit’s ROM might cause it to break down. So take all necessary precautions before doing so.
It’s a known secret that the Xperia X1 was manufactured by HTC for Sony Ericsson. So it is but expected that it was made to run some cool features that you would normally see on HTC phones.
One of this is HTC’s TouchFLO 3D user interface which can be loaded on top of the Windows Mobile 6.1 framework. The HTC TouchFLO 3D interface is a default feature of HTC phones such as HTC Touch PRO and HTC Touch Diamond.
So, if you want to try some other user interface on your Xperia X1, you can try loading the TouchFLO 3D GUI instead.
But before you do so, please be reminded that this is just a hack and is not really an official Sony Ericsson work-around. So, have a braveheart before doing so. And if you’re really up to it, head over to XDA-Dev Forum for the much needed guide on how to install the HTC TouchFLO 3D interface to your Xperia X1 units.
For those who are into tweaking the interface and appearance of their Xperia X1 units, you’ll be glad to know that the new Beta SDK for Windows Mobile 6.1 now incorporates adding Xperia Panels with OpenGL ES support. This will allow you to add 3D graphics through rendering, texture mapping, and adding special effects and other visualization tricks on your Xperia X1 units.
The new SDK also allows for accelerating the graphics hardware of the Xperia X1, hence giving you a more eye pleasing Xperia X1 interface.
The new SDK is available with sample codes to get you started in tweaking your Xperia X1 panels.
If you often use your Xperia X1′s camera to take landscape and scenery photos, you’ve probably wish that it has a more effective zoom lens, right? Well, Sony Ericsson may have not given it to our Xperia X1, but here comes the ever reliable Brando accessory brand with a telescope made specifically for the Xperia X1 camera.
Said telescope is capable of 6x zooming function, avoids image contortion and also produces high quality photos.
This telescope lens sells for $17 and comes with a handy strap and crystal case with adapter.
