Camera Quality: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 vs K800i
Posted in: Sony Ericsson, Xperia X1, tags: camera, k800i, Sony Ericsson, xperia, Xperia X1
Yuhui didn’t have the best first experience with Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 while at a road show booth. The handset was described as laggy, with an unresponsive touch screen. Fortunately, Yuhui also got the opportunity to try out a colleague’s X1. While changing programs was still showed some lag, the touch screen was much more responsive.
However, as someone who uses their phone as a camera, how it compared to Yuhui’s current phone, Sony Ericsson’s K800i, was important. Both phones were used to take a sample shot to compare against the other.
Both handsets feature a 3 megapixel camera, but the Xperia X1, in this snapshot comparison comes out on top. The K800i’s photo looks rather blurry and over exposed compared to the sharp picture from the Xperia.

Thanks for finding and linking to my post! I hope to be a proud owner of a Xperia X1, but just don’t have the “pennies” to spare.
This is a pretty rubbish comparison.
Totally different subjects, how to make any conclusion?
1 moving subject, 1 stationary, of course 1 blurry 1 not blurry!
black shirt vs white, of course difference in exposure!
As a photographer, my honest opinion is that the X1 has got pretty poor distortion control (look at the table, look at the green sign.)
X1 also seems to have very bad white balancing control. The image colours are all wrong!
then as a photographer you should know not to expect a phone camera to match a proper camera…. i hear so many people saying this phones camera is rubbish that phones camera is rubbish… wake up they are meant for having fun or to have in your pocket when you need it if you want to take high quality pictures then use a proper camera

I wanted to comment and thank the author, good stuff
What they don’t say is that the Xperia software takes 1 – 3 full seconds before snapping the photo, and occasionally freezes after doing so. (Xperia X1i owner)
Where exactly is this taking place? LOL
I think K800i might be the better choice, regarding camera output, response and software. The image is captured immediately or with very little lag after pressing the shoot-key and focusing, which I can not say for X1 (do not own one). And I must agree with Ty about the comparison, the X1 shoot is over exposed and saturated (bad white balancing), but I must admit it looks a little sharper – but one should have taken more shoots of nonmoving object at the same time, to tell if that is really the fact! I seriouslly doubt X1 camera is really that much superior! Besides, it is all in the software!
PS: I have done some comparison in person between k770i and k800i camera, and must say K800i pics are really superior and the camera is more responsive (I love it, speaking of nonprofesional, every day to day photography it is a good match to low end proper camera)! Rick Kraft post about X1 shoots and some reviews make me think X1 camera software is more like the slower K770 series, than k800i…
