sony-logoSony have released information on their financial report for the last financial year, 2008-2009. In it Sony admit that due to lack of demand for consumer electronics the company lost $1 Billion as consumers turn to less named brands for a cheaper cost in this economical time. Sony will have to cut costs and look at cheaper ways of producing their products, otherwise they could lose even more this financial year. The main culprit behind Sony’s loss is the PS3, which is expensive to buy compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii, expensive to produce and are losing Sony money. So far in a bid to cut costs, three production plants in Japan have already been shut down.

The folks over at Mobile Cowboys have attended the Tele-Vision stock market and caught a glimps of the upcoming Entertainment Unlimited phone from Sony Ericsson. We’ve previously posted pictures of the Idou before in it’s standard black version but the Idou model on display is the silver model. From the photos the silver does look more of a bronze color, so hopefully we’ll see some more pictures of it soon in a different light, but for now you can take a look at the snaps of the silver idou after the jump.

Over in Germany, HTC have lost a patent violation suit to IPCom GmbH. IPCom are claiming that some UMTS patents found in several of HTC’s phones have been infringed and are wanting HTC to pay license fees for these patents. There is no word on if the HTC developed Xperia X1 also infringes on this patent yet, but with both the G1 and HTC Magic both being named as example phones, there is a chance it could affect the X1 as well. If an agreement between the two companies isn’t arranged, HTC could be forced to stop selling UMTS smartphones in Germany.

x1
While some countries have been able to get hold of Sony Ericcson’s Windows Mobile smartphone, the Xperia X1 for quite some time now, Korean’s haven’t been as lucky. The Xperia X1 will finally launch in Korea next week. The X1 isn’t the only phone not to hit Korea soon after European and US release, the Touch Diamond from HTC only made it’s way to Korea last week and not the newest HTC Diamond either.

The lack of non Korean smartphones is set to change from April when the WiPi restriction ends. While this is good news, it will mean year old smartphones, like the HTC Touch Diamond, should become available. I’m sure many wish this happened sooner though, especially with missing out on such great devices like the X1, for quite some time.

Sony Ericsson is adding a new touch-screen phone to its line up which shall compete with the likes of the iPhone, LG, Samsung and RIM.  SE’s lone touch-screen phone Xperia X1 is not enough to compete with those rivals and so the Sony Ericsson Idou will soon be launched.

The Idou will be a pure Symbian based mobile device that will use a custom touch interface. It will feature a 3.5-inch (16:9) display ratio and would have a full touch screen input interface.  Even better is the fact that said phone will have a 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and retractable lens cover.

This new touch screen Sony Ericsson phone will be released sometime in the second half of this year.

At the Mobile World Congress, Toshiba have announced that they are to release a new mobile device to the European market this summer. The device has specs to rival both the iPhone and Xperia X1. The TG01 will feature a 4.1 inch touch screen with a resolution of 800 by 480 and run on Windows Mobile 6.

Toshiba have revealed that it will feature specs not found on other Windows Mobile based devices. To make the device as small and light as possible, the TG01 will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon technology, enabling the device to support GPS, Wifi, 3G networks and multimedia with a 1GHz CPU. The handset will also feature the same technology found in the Toshiba Regza line of TVs, providing excellent playback of videos and vivid colors. Other specifications of the phone include a 3.2 megapixel camera, a micro SDHC slot providing support of up to 32GB as well as built in 512MB ROM and 250MB RAM. The device will also support a variety of multimedia formats including MP3, WMA, AAC, MP4 and WMV. A custom user interface will also be found on the phone allowing rare features, such as the ability to switch to another application by tilting the phone.

Currently there’s no information on the price of the handset or which networks the phone will be available on. It has however been revealed that you’ll be able to pick the handset up in either black or white.
