If you’ve been experiencing problems with your X1’s bluetooth recently, it seems you’re not alone. Brandon from PocketNow has reported that the bluetooth on the X1, will randomly turn it self off and isn’t staying connected to other bluetooth devices. Many are waiting for a fix from Sony Ericsson, but in the mean time, an XDA developers forum member, scar45 has provided his own fix for this problem.
To temporarily solve the problem, he’s written a MortScript which checks the status of the bluetooth every x minutes. If it finds the bluetooth off, it will turn the bluetooth back on. You can download his fix and instructions here.
The Xperia X1 has been added to the list of compatible devices able to use dual SIM card holders by Simore. While you can’t have both numbers on at the same time, switching between the SIM cards is a simple process via the Start menu.
The video below shows a demonstration of the dual SIM card holder working on the X1. The video shows how to insert the holder as well as how to switch between the SIM cards.
Finally, U.S. folks who have been waiting to get their hands on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 can finally do so as SE’s first Windows Mobile phone is finally available/in-stock at the Sony Style online store. Words on the street indicates that the Xperia X1 is also available in some accredited Sony Ericsson retail locations.
Still, the Xperia X1 is not being carried by any U.S. mobile carrier so the price tag is still at a stiff $799. But you may also want to consider some taxes to be added to that price.
Or if you are not ready to splurge that much for a Sony Ericsson phone, you may want to wait for a couple of months to see if the price tag works for SE’s behalf. If not, expect its price to go down significantly.
The price reduction many of us have been hoping for on the Xperia X1 has happened. The bad news is though, it’s only available in China and it’s only a sale so expect the price to return to normal soon. If you do live in China though, this is an offer seriously worth considering. PowerDigi are selling the X1 with a whopping 40% off making it only ¥3980.00 (which is 583 USD or 421 EURO) .
Another popular application has been updated to support Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1. This time round it’s the SlingPlayer Mobile. The update by Sling Media provides support for 800×480, 640×480 and 320×320 screen resolutions which adds the Xpera X1, among other phones, to their list of compatible handsets.
SlingPlayer Mobile allows users to watch their TV, including services such as pay per view, video on demand and local weather and sports channels from their handset. You can download and give SlingPlayer a try for 30 days for free, after that it retails for $29.99.
Pocketables have been lucky enough to grab hold of the Xperia X1. Well, an unlocked X1i anyway, not the X1a after deciding not to wait until a US carrier subsidized the phone.
Jenn has taken photos of the Xperia being unboxed, with some angles not covered before such as the box contents.
The first five photos in the gallery show the various sides of the box, as well as inside, while the next two show the contents of the boxes inside. An extra stylus is provided with the headphones and charger while the primary stylus is already in the phone, along with a 4GB microSD card.
With the Xperia out, Jenn has provided some “quick look” photos as well as close ups of the handset. To complete the gallery we also have a couple of comparison photos added in as well. Read the rest of this entry »
Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1 was made in partnership with HTC, the same makers of the HTC Touch, Pro etc, but it appears the X2, or another Windows Mobile based phone from Sony Ericsson will cut ties with HTC. The partnership will actually end when the production of the X1 ceases and completes it’s business circle. Instead, Sony Ericsson’s second Windows Mobile smartphone, will have a partnership with Mobinnova. Mobinnova is a Taiwan handset maker under Foxconn Electronics.
The nominees for the Sony Ericsson Content Awards 2008 have been published on their website, but there’s still one category that’s accepting submissions and that’s the Xperia Panels category. The competition is open for any developer including individuals as well as companies. Panels can be created with the Sony Ericsson Beta SDK, which can be downloaded here.
The competition is open until the 30th of January 2009, so get your submissions in by then. The winners will be announced a few days later on the 5th of February.
Good news for all Facebook panel users out there, it’s been reported that the panel has been updated. While the update doesn’t bring any added features, users are reporting it is much faster when loading and provides better performance.
The Facebook panel for your Xperia X1, can either be downloaded directly from the Sony Ericsson website or via your handset. Going to the More Panels option on your handset will allow you to download the update.
Thanks to MySonyEricsson, you can now create your own panels for your Xperia X1. They have released an unofficial web application that allows you to create your own panels from HTML code.
All that you need to do to create your own panel, is to code a HTML file and have some thumbnail screenshots. The files are then uploaded to the web application which creates the panel from it for you to download. For the time being, only panels supported by Pocket IE 5 will work.
You can find the web application here and the guide to using it here.
