Sony Ericsson commit to Android 2.2 Q4 release

We recently learned that Sony Ericsson had pushed the release of Android 2.1 forward to Q3 from Q4. This may have been partly to user uproar, from users wanting the update sooner, or even skipping 2.1 altogether for Android 2.2 which has just been released. Or it may be because, Sony Ericsson have now committed to a Q4 release for Android 2.2.
Currently, Android 2.2, aka Froyo has been released on the Google Nexus One and will be making it’s way to other handsets over the next few months. It’s confirmed to be released on HTC devices sometime during Q3, with the possibility that those handsets will receive 2.2 before the X10 receives the 2.1 update. Other manufacturers have also confirmed they are working on 2.2. Samsung will update their Galaxy S series range to 2.2 but, a time line hasn’t been specified, while Motorola will be releasing the Droid X in the coming weeks, with Android 2.2 already installed. While X10 owners may have to wait longer than other devices, many X10 owners will be pleased that we get a 2010 release for Android 2.2, assuming it isn’t delayed anyway.

Guys, why cant i find any mention of android 2.2 support on SE’s own web site? I’m guessing Q4 will end up being Dec 31st 2010!
I am a present Omnia (910) user on Verizon who was really disappointed with Windows Mobile 6.1 and Samsung’s shell. Wound up getting SPB Mobile Shell to get a usable interface and needed to abandon Exchange e mail due to protection restrictions. Generally anytime you tried to place or acquire a call, you needed to enter your PIN and I was missing calls as being a result. As a final point decided to abandon smartphones for your time getting (economic reasons) and wait for a superb Android device. The Galaxy S (Facinate) ought to fit the bill. Disappointed to hear of the GPS difficulties. Let me add that Verizon’s 3G support was great throughout and I ultimately stopped making use of WiFi due to the fact V3G was plenty quickly adequate for me.Interestingly, I’m utilizing the Omnia like a wireless gadget all around the property for checking e mail, Twitter, Facebook and basic browsing. But not to be a cell phone!
Can you publish your source. I cannot find any comment from SE about an upgrade of the X10 to Android 2.2. SE have stated an upgrade to 2.1 might be out in Q4 2010.
There are a lot of unhappy X10 owners, myself included. Even if 2.2 does come out in early 2011, I would recommend people stay clear of the X10 as their o/s upgrade is hopeless.
Android works cool on the model before too! xperia x1a.. but quite tricky to install
No need for the P910 It still rocks as it is, i’ve had mine for 5 years now
Way to win Sportkin
Whilst I really like a physical keyboard, after dealing with the Samsung Captivate for about quarter-hour, it’s hard to go back. At the moment I’m debating whether to visit Verizon for the Droid X, go to Dash for the EVO, or stay with AT&T for the Captivate…choices, decisions.
I was talking to a tech at rogers on august 19th and he told me that SE has scrapped 2.1 and is working on 2.2 for q4 now. I’ve looked all over forums, but can’t find that info anywhere. Maybe the tech had no idea what he was talking about?
