For those who haven’t picked up the Xperia X10 in America, here’s an offer to make the X10 even tempting. If you pick up the Xperia X10 up and sign up to a two year contract with AT&T, you’ll receive a second Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 handset for free. This offer is only open for a limited time and will end at the new year, January 1st to be exact.

The only downside with the offer is that, while Sony Ericsson have released the Android 2.1 update for the Xperia X10, AT&T are yet to approve the update. Meaning for now, you’ll be stuck with a handset running Android 1.6, while most other owners of Android handsets will have 2.0 and above.

Since Sony Ericsson released the much needed Android 2.1 update for their Xperia X10, many users have been asking, “when will my AT&T branded X10 get the update?”. Until now, Sony Ericsson haven’t really said much, other than that they can’t confirm specific releases. While they still haven’t provided us with a date, they have provided further information regarding the update and why it’s not been released for the US already.

Firstly, as the Xperia X10 was released in the US 5 months after it was released in many other countries, the Android 2.1 update will also roll out in much the same way, with the initial launch countries having received the Android 2.1 update for their X10 handset, while the US, who had to wait longer for the handset, are still waiting for the Android update. However, even when Sony Ericsson release the US Android update, it still needs to pass through rigorous testing in the US and also AT&T’s own testing, which we’ve seen with other networks throughout the world. Unfortunately, the testing process in the US however, can take months to finish, so we may not see the update Stateside any time soon. You can check out Sony Ericsson’s USA Facebook page here for full details on the ‘delay’ of Android 2.1 for the X10 in the US.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone has been available in the US for a little while now but, only available in the standard black color. This is set to change soon however, as Best Buy will soon begin selling the handset in white. The white version of the Xperia X10 should go on sale on October 24th. As before, the handset is still only available on AT&T, meaning you will need to sign up for a new two year contract with the network. The handset itself, when bought with a contract, will set you back $99. To secure your white X10 handset, you can place a $50 deposit to reserve one.

As well as selling the Xperia X10 in white, Best Buy are also due to begin selling the Samsung Fascinate in white for the holiday season. The Dell Streak will also be making it’s way to Best Buy, making all three handsets available from the 24th of October onwards. Best Buy certainly seem to be dreaming of a white Christmas this year.

Over at Mobile Cruch, the guys have got their hands on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10, which has finally been released in the US. What better way to celebrate this than by providing unboxing photos. As you can see from the gallery below, the boxing for the X10 on AT&T is different to elsewhere in the world. For example, in the UK the box looks more like that of an iPhone, rather than a square box. Also the Xperia logo on the back next to Sony Ericsson has been replaced with AT&T. If this bothers you, you can easily cover this with one of the many cases available for the X10.

The rest of the contents of the box look pretty much the same. It isn’t known whether the AT&T model comes with a screen protector on the screen already however. UK models have been found to have one on the screen already, while other markets have one on the screen and in the box. One other thing to note, with the AT&T branded model, the ability to install third party apps has, unfortunately been disabled. Meaning you’re limited to apps from the Android Market. This also limits the amount of keyboard mods you can install as not all are available through the marketplace.

Sony Ericsson’s first Android powered handset, the Xperia X10 has finally been released in America, after months of it being out in Europe, Canada and elsewhere around the world. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson haven’t updated the Android firmware on it yet, so it’ll be interesting to see how many consumers actually purchase the handset.

If Android 1.6, with 2.1 promised for late Q3 doesn’t put you off, here’s the details of where you can get the X10 and for how much. Firstly the handset is available on AT&T, so naturally you can purchase it directly from AT&T. The handset will cost you $149.99 up front, along with tying into a 2 year contract. It appears that you will also need to pay an activation fee for the handset. For $349.99 you can purchase the handset without taking a contract out.

Alternatively, you can grab the Xperia X10 from Sony themselves at Sony Style. On the Sony Style website, there is a $70 rebate, making the handset available for $129.99 up front. A better deal than with AT&T direct. This will also tie you into a two year contract with AT&T. The $70 instant rebate is valid until September 19th. Along with grabbing the handset for a lower price, Sony Style are also offering free activation, for both existing and new customers. This offer ends 31st August. If that wasn’t enough to make you place your order for the X10 with Sony Style, they are also throwing in an 8GB microSD card for free. This normally retails for $45. There is also free shipping.

The reservation page for the Xperia X10 has gone live on the Sony Style website. Through the reservation page, you can order the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on AT&T. While going directly through AT&T, the handset will cost you $149.99. However if you place an order through the Sony Style website, the handset is $20 cheaper at $129.99. This will tie you into a two year contract. The Xperia X10 will be released tomorrow in the US.

Unfortunately, the handset will come with Android 1.6, the same version of Android as the X10 was launched with in other countries around the world. Sony Ericsson have however said, they are working on a late Q3 release for Google Android 2.1, so hopefully we should see the update within the next six weeks. Until then, you can play around with the phone and see why Sony Ericsson are customizing the OS to include the Sony Ericsson UI, which brings in the unique TimeScape and MediaScape applications.

When Sony and AT&T released the information that the Xperia X10 would be available from August 15th, one thing that was omitted among the specs and features of the phone, was the Android version the X10 would be running. In light of this, XperiaX10.net sent a Twitter message to Sony Ericsson North America. They have confirmed that, when the X10 is released in America, it will also be running Android 1.6.

Will this put you off getting the X10? As many handsets are already receiving the Android 2.2 update. Sony Ericsson have confirmed they are working for a late Q3 release but, will this be too late to save the handset in the US? With the Xperia X10 already being out 4 months in the UK, many would have thought Sony Ericsson could have finalized the Android 2.1 OS for the US launch.

The count down timer on the Sony Style website has worked it’s way down to zero. The “Smarter is coming” slogan has been replaced with “Smarter is here” and the count down timer now has the Xperia X10 in position. Upon clicking on it, it will take you to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 page. Here we find out that the handset will cost $129.99 from AT&T with a two year contract.

According to Engadget, Sony are also saying that if you grab the handset from a Sony Style store, you can pick the X10 up for $20 or less. They also go on to say that, if you wait a week, Amazon will be offering the handset up for $49.99 on contract.

Good news for our American readers as it looks like the Xperia X10 from Sony Ericsson will finally be released in the US. The handset is due to be released sometime between the middle of August and the middle of September this year, so not too long to wait now. The handset will be made available through AT&T, where the Xperia X10 has recently passed the company’s technical acceptance test.

The device is, according to AT&T’s systems, to cost phone retailers $345 per handset but, it’s unknown currently what the subsidized and unsubsidized costs and tariffs will be. It is also very likely that the x10 handset will ship with the Google Android OS version 1.6 but, hopefully the expected 2.1 update should follow shortly after release of the X10 on US shores.

While there are already plenty of Xperia X10 owners in the US, so far owners have had to import the handset from Europe or Canada, there aren’t any official US handsets in the US. This should change in the coming weeks however. Sony Ericsson’s Android powered Xperia X10 has finally passed through the Technical Acceptance Test from AT&T. While no official date has been set, now the X10 has passed through the AT&T Technical Acceptance process, the handset should be available in the coming weeks. Unfortunately pricing is also unknown but, BoyGeniusReport suspect it should have a $149-$199 price point, with a two year network contract. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz has also passed through the acceptance test and should be available as early as September.
