Shortly after the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc was released, a few users reported problems with the chassis on the handset, namely a crack above the Sony Ericsson writing. The crack appears near the proximity sensor and shortly after this was discovered, the Xperia Arc S was announced which, many thought would solve this problem. However, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S users are also finding the same happening on the upgraded Arc S handset.

The problem on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S seems less widespread than that of the original Arc but, this could be due to several reasons. Firstly Sony Ericsson may have strengthened the chassis on the Arc S but, secondly there are probably more Arc owners than Arc S owners right now and the original Arc has been out for a longer time for the fault to appear.

Have you found this on your Arc S? Let us know in the comments.

Symbian World have compared the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 against Nokia’s N96. In this ‘vs’ article the phones are compared for size & weight, and build quality.

Both of the phones feature a large screen, so naturally the phones are larger than most modern handsets. The N96 measures in at 103 x 55 x 18 mm, while the X1 stands at 110.5 x 52.6 x 17 mm. Size wise, the X1 wins that point, but barely with it being a millimetre thinner and a tad thinner, but longer than the N96. The N96 weighs in at 125g, making it 20g lighter than the X1. Both feel good while using them, but overall for size and weight, the N96 wins that round.

With regards to build quality, the N96 doesn’t fair quite so well. From first appearances it’s clear that it’s made from plastic as opposed to metal like the X1. They D-pad was also found to make strange noises, which other N96 owners have encountered. After using the X1 for a few days and then switching to the N96, Nokia’s handset felt more like a toy than a phone. This of course means the X1 wins this round.
