If you guys hate the standard screen for incoming calls, or wish it were bigger, there’s an app that will help you and make the incoming call space larger. The app is called iCaller, which is described as a “simple CallerID app”. It allows contact pictures to be displayed full size, along with the name and address of your contact. It’s currently in alpha stage, so is likely to contain some bugs and may not work on all devices, but that hasn’t stopped some members of XDA-Developers from creating skins for it.

Forum member F-Styla had problems with the app on his handset, so modified the program and fixed some issues as outlined below.

* Fixed the position problem
* Made the font bigger
* Put caller information on the top
* Xperia style screen when contacts without pictures call you
* SU2U (ipod style) background for calling information

Where as mcvrle created a new style for it, which is simple but cool and a greater change from the original style. This style works in both landscape and portrait mode, as well as recognising and showing where the call is coming from, whether it’s a home number, work or mobile.

xperia-percentage-battery-meter
One thing that’s bothered me on phones, is that the battery meter is represented in bars, not giving you a true indication of how much life is left in the battery before the next charge. For those who also feel the same, a program has been developed to give the battery meter reading a percentage mark.

To achieve this on your Xperia X1, the software is installed as a CAB, with MS SDKcerts also needing to be installed first. The CAB installs Ethermind’s Battery driver. Once installed the phone displays the battery meter with a percentage, in 1% increments. If you’re using an X series custom taskbar enhancement/skin it’s 5% increments, but this will be updated soon. You can download the CAB file from XDA-Developers.

sportypal-xperia

An app for mobiles has been developed that allows users to track their performance with summarized information, map view and detailed graphics about their workout. The application, SportyPal allows you to track your performance on running, cycling, roller blading, walking and “freestyle”. SportyPal makes use of the built in GPS, making it compatible on any Windows Mobile device, not just the Xperia X1, as well as being available in Java format as long as the phone has GPS. To use SportyPal and track your performance, you need an account with SportyPal which can be set up very easily from the X1 by entering your email address and a password to use. Your performance data is uploaded to their website where you can track it and share your performance information. The stats include information on speed and distance, as well as your average speed. It can also calculate how many calories you’ve burned. Along with that, you can track where you did your workout with a Google map being available. The application is similar to Tracker, an app for Sony Ericsson phones that tracks your performance, but Tracker only supports running. Both of the apps are free to use, so it’s worth changing over to SportyPal. You can view SportyPal in action on the X1 below.

xtrakt-xperia-x1
Once again, over at XDA-Developers, they’ve come up with something great for the Xperia X1. This time it’s a custom ROM by itje which includes many applications and fun stuff. In order to use the custom ROM you have to flash the ROM firmware on your Xperia, but fortunately, itje has released the CAB files to a few of the apps that don’t require any flashing of your X1. One of the apps is a 3D game called Xtrakt which works perfectly well on the X1 and is highly praised in comments.

In the game you control the main character on a futuristic motorbike and destroy monsters. The game is said to be very fun and better than a lot of other games on Windows Mobile. The character is controlled with the stylus. You can download the CAB here and view the game in action below.

panoramic-background-touchflow-3d-xperia

If the recently released tweaks for the Xperia X1 converted version of TouchFlo 3D 2 didn’t tempt you into using it, then perhaps the ability to have a panoramic background will. Or if you’re already using it, this is a great add on for the app.

Rotastrain over at XDA-Developers has created a cab file that allows TouchFlo 3D to use a panoramic background in it’s interface, which you can download here. He’s also created a small guide on how you can use your own panoramic picture for the background if the default one isn’t to your liking, or you grow bored of backgrounds easily.

Currently a lot of users are using it and are impressed with it. The only downside reported is that it doesn’t work as well in landscape mode as it does in portrait, but hopefully this is just the first release of many. You can view the app in action on the X1 below.
