According to the latest O2 catalogue, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 handset will be an O2 exclusive release in the UK market.
The X8 is advertised for sale in the October 2010 edition of the O2 sales brochure at a cost of £129.99 plus £10 airtime top-up charge on the network as a Pay as You Go handset. O2 have then gone on to claim that the X8 smartphone handset is “Only on O2″ which looks set to be a great exclusivity deal for the UK carrier as the Xperia X8 should prove very popular with consumers due to it’s fairly low price and it’s not too shabby list of specifications for such a low price.
O2 also advise in the catalogue that customers wishing to enter into a monthly contract for the X8 handset should enquire within O2 stores regarding the deals on offer.

Over on the O2 website, the Xperia X10 has made an appearance leading to further speculation that the carrier will be providing the Sony Ericsson smartphone at some point in the future.
The X10 has previously been spotted on the O2 website by coolsmartphone when the model appeared in the accessories section of the site and now the X10 has appeared on the O2 ‘smartphone hub‘ page, in image form at least but, with UK carrier Vodafone already due to offer the X10, these little teasers from O2 are giving the impression that the android handset will indeed be available on O2 in the UK.

Rumours are rife that Sony Ericsson will be producing a smartbook. A smartbook is a step down from a netbook and slightly smaller, but about the same size as the Sony Vaio P. With many consumers using the X1 for business activities it makes sense for the company to create a device a bit bigger than an Xperia handset, but smaller than traditional laptops and even netbooks.
The smartbook from Sony Ericsson is said to be coming soon. With hardware limitations it won’t run a full Windows XP OS but could possible run Windows CE, or even Android like the upcoming X3. While it’s not confirmed, it is also likely to use Qualcomm Snapdragon inside.

Chief executive for Sony Ericsson, Hideki Komiyama has revealed that they are to produce a handset which uses the Android operating system by Google. Unfortunately there’s no time line on when an Android based phone would become available from the Company.
Komiyama explained that it requires a lots of testing and evaluating. It also needs consumer acceptance and even then, there would still be some time to go. He further went on to say that they see Android as an important operating system and one to get on board with using. The company are to focus on how their Android handset will be set apart from other phones on the same OS.
This will damper hopes of the Xperia X2 running Android, but still not impossible.

Over at Planete Nokia, the guys have grabbed some more and newer photos of Sony Ericsson’s upcoming touch screen cybershot walkman phone, the Idou. The phone follows the look of Sony Ericsson’s other flagship phone, the C905 and raises the bar with an impressive 12 megapixel camera, while still being a smart phone like the Xperia, admittedly symbian based rather than Windows Mobile based, as well as being as good media wise as any walkman phone.
