Those who have updated or repaired their phones recently using the Sony Ericsson Update Service may have noticed a new handset on the list at the programs start up. The Acro appears to be similar to the Xperia Arc, not only in name. There are two versions of the handset, S0-o2C and IS11S, which is likely to be the GSM version for NTT Docomo and CDMA for KDDI respectively.

Differences between the Arc and the Acro appear to be added features that are important for the Japanese market. This include infrared, which for most Japanese is more important than Bluetooth, a TV tuner and NFC capability.

A few weeks back, Sony Ericsson released a firmware update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2. This update was dubbed the MR1 update, which added video calling support and and FM radio support. At the time, another update, the MR2 was promised which has now been released. Again, this update improves performance of the handset and usability but, the biggest part of the update, is that it brings Windows Mobile 6.5.3 to the X2. To upgrade, you’ll need to use the Sony Ericsson Update Service. If the update isn’t showing, check back in a few hours, as it’s being rolled out throughout various regions at a different speed.

Xperia X1
Since the last firmware update a couple of weeks ago, a newer and better Xperia firmware has been released. The newest firmware boosts the reception signal, which could be useful for those with Korean X1s. The touchscreen responsiveness is also improved in this firmware, making the Xperia easier to use. The keyboard back light power has also been increased, with the media panel also being given a boost in performance.

You can download the ROM from XDA-Developers, or alternatively by using the Sony Ericsson Update Service software. If you haven’t already got it installed, you can grab it from here, then follow the instructions to load the new firmware onto the phone.
