For those who can’t wait any longer to run Android on an Xperia handset, fear not, a coder over at XDA Developers has ported Android 2.0.1 over to the X1. Like the Ubuntu port, it is limited but, fun to have a go at. Currently the camera, GPS and bluetooth don’t work. GSM and WiFi however do work, along with the screen still responding to touch. Other features apart from those mentioned should also function. You can view how you can port Android to your X1 here, or view the video of Android on the X1 in action below.

The coders over at XDA Developers really do amazing work. The latest modification for the Xperia X1 is a port of Ubuntu. Fatsal has created a port of Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 for the X1. Of course the functionality is limited but, hopefully fatsal will keep working on it and we’ll see a less limited version soon. That said, a lot of fun can be had with the port. You can view full photos of the port along with the download links, which are over 1GB in size here.

Less than two weeks ago, Sony Ericsson officially launched the Xperia X1 in the land of Korea. And with three new panels to boot. Now, the very first user review has finally been published, courtesy of our oft reliable friends at Telecoms Korea. According to Sony Ericsson, retail Xperia X1 units are going to have a free 4GB microSD card with the the Spiderman 3 movie preloaded, an additional battery and a charging dock, but the reviewer noted that none of these were present with his review unit. Initially, he says, his impressions on the Korean Xperia X1 weren’t good, mainly because of the slow Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. However, he came to like the Xperia X1′s performance as a phone, as it performed quite well especially with all the panels. To learn more about the Korean version of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, head on down to the link below for the full review.

The free downloadable mobile browser for Windows Mobile and S60 called Skyfire has been updated to version 0.9 and now includes WVGA and WQVGA support which means it can finally be used on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.

Skyfire claims to give it’s users:

a web browsing experience exactly like PC browsing. For the first time ever, on your phone, you can watch any video, connect with friends, listen to music, shop, and browse the web using the full-featured PC versions of your favorite websites. With Skyfire, mobile browsing just works — speedy page loads, full video, images and audio.

The browser has been applauded for it’s ability to play Flash video and with this update comes the addition of a “real-time activity wall”, which gathers RSS feeds along with access to Facebook and Twitter. There are various feeds preloaded into Skyfire and more can be added easily.

You can download the Skyfire browser at the official website here and the demo video of Skyfire in action is posted below above.

CECT, who have previously released clones of other phones, have once again created a clone of a popular handset. CECT have launched the CECT X1 which is a clone of the X1.

The appearance of the CECT X1 is very similar to that of the Xperia as it also features a 3 inch LCD display with touchscreen functionality. Unlike the Xperia X1, the CECT X1 doesn’t have a slide out QWERTY keyboard nor does it have a 3 mega pixel camera.

Instead you will find a 0.3 megapixel camera with video recording cabapilites, as well as an FM radio, MP3 and MP4 player, Rock “shake”, allowing you to shake the handset to switch the music, microSD support and dual sim support. The Hong Kong phone, supports 850/1800/1900MHz allowing it to work in both North and South America as well as Japan. You can purchase the handset in America from ZYDAGLO for $135.

Today, the FCC have posted up documents on the Xperia X1 which they’ve recently tested out. The documents include the release date for the US as well as the test report and SAR readings.

The User Manual can also be downloaded via the FCCs site in two parts, although the User Manual could previously be downloaded direct from Sony Ericsson’s website. Internal and external photos of the Xperia X1 have also been released. The X1 may have been taken apart already by an X1 owner, but these photos give you a more in-depth and intriguing look into the X1.

All the documents are available to download from here in PDF which will require a PDF reader.

Paul’s also made a video demoing TouchFlo 3D on the X1 which you can view after the jump.
Michell over at Sony Ericsson Unofficial Blog spent some time making an Xperia X1 comparison video.

He compared the X1 to five other phones from Sony Ericsson. The video starts by showing all six phones together, followed by a side by side comparison of the phones from all angles.

The first phone Michell compares with the X1 is the Sony Ericsson P990. At the time the P990 being a very popular phone, however next to the Xperia X1, it looks quite dated and clunky. As well as the P990 the video also shows comparisons between the M600, W910, K850 and the W960 to the Xperia X1.

Verdict? They’re pretty impressive. Michell admits to being surprised at how good the camera is in the X1. Photos are of high quality and there were no signs of color or white balance problems. The only issue found, that is a seldom sight, is some photos have a purple tint.
Over at Mobile Tech Addicts, Russ has found that FlashLite works within the Opera browser on the Xperia X1.

FlashLite allows you to play flash content, such as games and YouTube videos directly from the Opera browser. Russ reports that flash games seem to work fine. He found YouTube to be slighly laggy though. Hopefully future versions of FlashLite will fix this issue.

You can download FlashLite from Modaco, along with other great software for the X1.
