Sony Ericsson recently released their see through handset, the Xperia Pureness in the UK. Not available through mobile operators but rather, from Selfridges, the handset retails for £530 ($881). Now the handset, has been released in America, for an even higher price. Like in the UK, the handset is sold through a retail outlet, Saks Fifth Avenue as well as the Sony VIP Shopping Service. The handset is retailing for an incredibly high price of $990. US customers will also get a concierge service with the handset, providing 24 access to information on social events and hotspots anywhere in the world.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness entered the FCC for approval and got it. One dissapointment while looking at what’s in the filing, is that 3G is nowhere to be found in the testing. Looking through all the documents on the FCC though, only the User Manual mentions 3G in the context of saving battery life. It does however confirm that the Xperia Pureness is indeed the X5 and not the X4, which we’re still missing from the Xperia lineup.
Engadget note though, that with the transparent screen it’s unlikely many will be using it for web browsing or media streaming and so 3G probably won’t be missed much in this handset. So hopefully, with the approval by the FCC it means it’ll be available from the Sony Style store soon, possible on par with the UK November release.
Sony Ericsson are planning to release the Xperia Pureness in the UK from November, in time for Christmas. However unlike other mobiles, it’ll be going direct to retail through Selfridges instead of through a network dealer. The lack of features compared to other Xperia handsets will still set you back just as much for the Purenesses transparent display. When the phone launches it will cost a whopping £530 sim free. So while it may be released in time for Christmas, it doesn’t leave all that much time to save up for the handset considering the current economical climate.
A busy week for all things Xperia. Following on from the videos we have of the Xperia X2, Areamobile.de have gotten up close and personal with the Xperia Pureness. Unfortunately no video this time, not yet anyway but, they’ve taken many photos of the handset. The photos reveal more of the transparent screen and how transparent it really is. One of the photos shows the handset without seeing what’s going on behind the phone, which would hopefully mean the screen can’t be seen from behind either for SMS purposes but, another picture seems to show that the display can be seen from the other side. Telefonino who have reported on these photos estimate that the handset will retail for around $699.
We previously posted up the video for the recently announced Xperia Pureness, previously known as Kiki. It appears that the previous video was only part 1 and below we have part 2. Unfortunately the second video doesn’t give any further details away about what specs it’ll feature. It is clear however, that not only can you view the display from the back of the phone as well as the front, but you can also see through it. The video shows blocks behind the phone which can be seen through the display, along with what’s actually on the display. We’ll keep you posted on other specifications as they emerge.
Following on from the official announcement from Sony Ericsson of the Xperia X2, the company have also officially announced one of the other Xperia handsets which had photos floating around the net and it isn’t what we expected. Many were expecting the Xperia Rachael, aka X3 to be the next Xperia handset to be unveiled by Sony Ericsson, but instead it’s fallen to the Xperia handset formally known as Kiki.
Sony Ericsson have named the handset Xperia Pureness and is due for release in November to selected markets. Unfortunately further specifications of the handset are still unknown so we’ll keep you posted. Photos and a video however have been captured, which you can view after the jump.
