We recently learned that unlike it’s big brother the X10, the mini version did have the supported hardware for multi touch screen capabilities. However Timo Maassmann over at the SE Blog has confirmed that the X10 Mini will not support multi touch and neither will the X10 Mini Pro. If it were enabled it would “destroy the simplicity” of using them.

He also goes on to say, that the interface has been designed to make one handed use, as easy as possible. Four corner shortcuts are included in the features of the phone, as well as being able to zoom in and out of photos using your thumb. You can see Sony Ericsson’s official video of the X10 Mini showing how easy it is to use the handset one handed below.

One question which I’m sure has been on many people’s lips and minds, is whether the X10 Minis will support multi touch. With the official word out on the lack of multi touch for the X10, it was quite likely that the X10 Mini and Mini Pro would also not be multi touch compatible. Thanks to SE-Blog though, we can confirm that the Xperia X10 Mini does have the hardware support for multi touch. Synaptics are responsible for the screen on the X10 Mini and it is a ClearPad 2000 solution, which to you and me means it supports multi touch. It’s likely however, that the X10 Mini won’t have the software to support multi touch out of the box and is most likely due in a software update, quite possibly when the Android 2.1 update comes out.

Synaptics have also confirmed that they are not the supplier of the X10 Mini Pro. We’re not sure who the supplier of the screen is for the X10 Mini Pro, so at this moment we can’t confirm whether the Mini Pro will support multi touch.

Online UK retailer Expansys have listed the Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro on their website, available for pre-order. The company initially put the release date out as March 16th but, shortly after this was changed to May 24th. A May 24th release date certainly seems more realistic than the original March 16th date and hopefully it won’t change again.

The X10 Mini, is available to pre-order for £299.99. Where as the X10 Mini Pro, which features a slide out QWERTY keyboard, you’ll be paying £40 more for the keyboard, with it retailing at £339.99.

Following on from the Xperia X10 being spotted in image form on the O2 website, CoolSmartphone have had news from an unnamed source, that the whole X10 range will be headed to O2. Sony Ericsson recently announced the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro, which complete the X10 range. Again, O2 have yet to confirm this and unlike the X10, they haven’t been spotted on the O2 website yet. If the X10 Mini and Mini Pro are indeed coming to O2 though, it’s very likely Vodafone will be offering the full range of X10 handsets as well. We’ll keep you posted on further updates.

Following on from the announcement of the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro, we can now follow it up with photos of both of the handsets. Originally we only had the photo of the X10 Mini. In the X10 Mini Pro photo, we can see the size and key positioning of the keyboard. Sony Ericsson have also released a promo video for both of the handsets. You can view the photos and the trailer after the jump.

Sony Ericsson made some headlines today by spearheading the excitement over at the ongoing Mobile Web Congress in Barcelona Spain. Indeed, Sony Ericsson was able surprise everyone not by announcing the Xperia X10 Mini  but also its twin brother the Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Both phones run on the Android 1.6 OS and are compact versions of the previously announced Xperia X10 smartphone.

The difference between these two smartphones are very few as the X10 mini pro sports a slide out QWERTY Keyboard while the Xperia X10 mini is a touchscreen phone. Aside from this, the two phones give users access to thousands of applications available at the Android Market.

The two phones also boast of nice customization features such as home screen customization through widgets. Both phones are also pre-loaded with Sony Ericsson’s new application called Timescape. This app allows users to see at a glance text messages, missed calls and Facebook and Twitter updates without needing to open those apps individually. Read the rest of this entry »

More pictures of the “Xperia X10 mini” have surfaced, thanks to PointGphone. They’ve taken snaps of the handset next to an Apple iPhone, giving you an even better picture of the size of Robyn. Further specs are still unknown at this time. There’s also been no announcement from Sony Ericsson but, hopefully we’ll get more leaked photos and specs on the handset soon.

An image of an unannounced Sony Ericsson handset has surfaced, which looks very much like the upcoming Android powered Xperia X10. The “mini X10″ is codenamed Robyn and first impressions lead us to believe it could be an X10 mini. Robyn also runs on Android like the X10 and features a downsized touch screen. The screen of Robyn measures almost a full inch smaller than the X10 at 2.6″. We can also confirm the handset features a 5 megapixel camera and comes in a choice of black, white, pink or yellow. Other specs are currently unknown but, there should be an official announcement at the MWC event on February 14th.
