Facebook which has both an iPhone and BlackBerry applications is now moving to another mobile phone using another mobile phone platform. Yes, the latest Facebook conquest is none other than our much anticipated mobile phone Xperia X1 which now have a Facebook panel of its own.

Gigaom is reporting about it, although no official words are available yet from the Facebook blog but the Facebook panel is now available at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Developer site.

It will really be interesting to see Xperia X1 owners right now who will install this app and find out how it compares with the iPhone and Blackberry Facebook apps. Would it be as robust and fast loading as the iPhone Facebook app? Hopefully, I get to test this panel when I get my Xperia X1 soon.

Of course, having Facebook as a panel would not really create a big interest among mobile phone users, enough to convince them to get the Xperia X1 despite its high price.

  1. Already is released as an official panel at the SE page

  2. I downloaded the facebook panel and installed but the panel does not work. I use my correct login details and it keeps coming back saying “Login Failed”.

I found that I did not have wireless connected and that may be the reason. If that is the case, there needs to be settings that allow it to use the contract internet that vodafone provide rather than relying on wireless internet.

Without going on too much, there may be settings in the xperia that counteract this, but I have yet to find it.

  3. Hey..I downloaded and installed this facebook panel from the SE page itself. I installed it on the storage card, signed in, updated status, etc. and finally when I clicked on the “Panel” button to change the panel, my cell hung up. So then I uninstalled it, and installed it on the main memory, but the problem continues… any solutions?

Do not bother with the facebook panel, it is painfully slow, annoying, and shows
only a fraction of the info that is otherwise availible from loging on via explorer on phone. its really not worth mentioning any more about this piece of crap other than
if I was the developer of this I would of beta tested it for a damn sight longer before releasing it. shoddy pointless piece of software

  9. it looks nice, but it doesnt really make u do A LOT, like iphone and blackberry.. u cannot post comments on ur friends page, or post a comment on their status.. viewing profiles is limited… i hope SE will come out with a better version of facebook panel for x1 users…

  10. i already install it, all features doesnt work properly and limited indeed, it makes me dissapointed and unconvenient…this fb panel really really sucks !! cant you create another one which more usefull and better than it?

  11. Still wondering what the panel is for, seeing that i can’t leave a comment on my friend’s update…
    Waiting for another release.

  12. I have been a massive fan of Sony Ericsson for some time. My last 3 phones have been Sony. However I typically go for camera phones as I also have been using an iPod Touch as a wireless connection to the internet (Facebook, Skype et al), music player and to watch TV programmes, movies etc.
What I have been reading here is not inspiring. I had been contemplating going for a Xperia, as I like the Sony interface and consider the brand to be the most reliable on the mobile market.
I use social media a lot (it is my first means of communication, both at work and at home) and therefore want to be able to use Yammer, Skype and Facebook. Do these work well with this handset?
