Xperia X1 one handed usability increased
Posted in: Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile G1, Xperia Accessories, Xperia Software, Xperia X1, o2, tags: htc keyboard, keyboard, qwerty, Xperia X1One complaint among X1 users, seems to be that using the X1 with one hand proves to be quite difficult. One of the reasons being that there isn’t a finger friendly keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard needs to be used for replying to messages etc. There also isn’t a Start menu button.
Fortunately, there’s two cool apps for the Xperia X1 that will make using one hand much easier. The first app, while it won’t create a Start menu button, it will make the Start menu larger, making it more finger friendly. You can download the CAB file here and run it from your X1.
The second app, is the a port of the HTC keyboard which is usually found on the HTC devices, such as the Touch HD. This will give you a SureType keyboard as well as a full keyboard along with a T9 style keypad. This app can be downloaded here and installed the same as the previous app.

i’m getting my X1 in a couple of days and intend to install the HTC HD keyboard. am totally clueless how to transfer the CAB files to the phone. am i just to copy and paste the extracted files? to what folder? how do i do that? kindly e-mail me. thanks.
Do not extarct cab file, only copy it to phone. Tnx.
A cab on winMo is like an .exe on windows, just get it onto your phone and click on it to install.
got it. when i installed it however, the phone said that the application might not work properly as it was designed for a prior edition of windows mobile. my x1 is running Windows Mobile 6.1. the keyboard application did not work. only the “larger” today application worked.
I have my x1 for a about a month already and one thing that i found really annoying is that when I want to close (X) an application with a hard key I can only use the OK key, which does not actually close it, but sends it to the background (-). In the end I have a bunch on application running on the background when I open the task manager, this of course slows it down. Funny thing is that the left and right programmable keys, can be programmed for opening something, but not closing.
Any ideas anyone?

“”One of the reasons being that there isn’t a finger friendly keyboard, the QWERTY keyboard needs to be used for replying to messages etc. There also isn’t a Start menu button.”"
- So you mean such a large keyboard for a phone, approx. 9cm x 2.5cm physical QWERTY keyboard isn’t finger friendly? Well then i would suggest that u bring your PC keyboard with your phone.
-There isn’t a start menu button.. LOOK what’s that on the top left of the QWERTY keyboard!!! A Windows flag? What do you think it is?
-I’m im fact not sure about what keyboard you are talking about??? In specs. people generally refer the QWERTY keyboard as the physical keyboard. But if you are talking about the software keyboard, Why the hell did you put a picture with someone trying to use the physical keyboard above it???
-Yes Indeed, touch HD keyboard is kind of cool. but in fact it’s not compatiable with many softwares. i.e. youtube, the media control buttons disappears when you have previousedly used touch HD keyboard
wellyouareastupididiot.
or may be posting about a phone you don’t have.
When emailing, web browsing, working on documents the hardware keyboard is amazing.
However, when i want to reply ‘yes’ in a text i have to hold the phone with one hand and type with the other, or hold with both hands and type with both thumbs.
So idiot boy……..
If you are looking for other tools that enhance your Xperia X1, mycellconnect website has few available (themes, panels, tweakers).
