Following up on our recent post regarding the parting ways of Sony Ericsson and HTC with regards to the manufacturing of the second generation Xperia X1 which we shall now call the Xperia X2, we’ve also found out that aside from Foxconn, another company is also getting into the deal. And what do you know that company happens to be Asustek through its manufacturing arm Pegatron.

Although the Xperia X2 is not to hit the market until late 2009, negotiations as to who would manufacture the said new version of the Xperia X1 is already ongoing as early as now. Sony Ericsson hopes to close the deal as early as the first quarter of 2009 to give the chosen company ample time to develop the Xperia X2.

Still, Sony Ericsson would not disclose the reason why it ended the deal with HTC, although it has reported that some quality issues with the Xperia X1 might be the reason.
