Sony Ericsson have today, officially announced the Xperia X8. We previously saw a blurry photo of the handset, which later turned into what were believed to be official photos. At that time however, we didn’t have any specs to go on, other than knowing it’s design was inspired by the Xperia X10 and size wise, it was considered a medium size, compared to the X10 and the X10 Mini. However with the official announcement from Sony Ericsson, comes official specifications.
The handset, previously known as “Shakira” has been confirmed to be the Xperia X8, it will feature a 3 inch touch screen display, larger than the X10 Mini’s 2.55 inch display but, smaller than the X10′s impressive 4 inch display. It’s not clear whether the X8 will support multi touch but, as it has many similarities to the X10 it’s quite likely that it won’t but, it’s not confirmed at this time. The X8 is also equipped with a 600MHz processor, the same as the X10 Mini. Likewise it’ll come with Android 1.6 installed but, it’s not due for release until Q3 2010 and so, the Android 2.1 update should be out around the same time. The only over difference between this handset and the X10 is the camera. While the X10 Mini boasts a 5 megapixel camera, the X8 has a lower 3.2 megapixel camera.
A unique feature of the X8 however, is that as well as the 3.5mm headset jack, it will also be possible to connect AVP cables to the handset, allowing you to listen to audio in high quality, a feature not seen on mobile handsets before. When the Xperia X8 is released in Q3, it will be available in all white, a silver/white, pink/white, aqua blue/white and dark blue/white. Retail price is expected to be €259.00.
